An investigation is under way in Ayr after the Coal Authority closed off part of a street at the weekend.
Part of Thornwood Avenue in the Dalmilling area was closed off on Saturday night, after a section of the road and nearby grassy area appeared to partially collapse.
The Coal Authority says it is investigating whether the collapse was caused by historical mining.
A Coal Authority spokesperson said: "We are currently investigating whether a ground collapse in Scotland was caused by historical mining.
"We were called to the site, on a road and grassed area, in Ayr alongside our colleagues from Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service late on Saturday night.
"We have secured the area to keep people safe and will be carrying out further ground investigation works over the coming days.
"As a Category 2 Responder, we respond to incidents that could be linked to historical mining works around the clock.
"People can contact our emergency hazard line on 0800 288 4242 to report any incidents."
Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have also been contacted for comment.
